Profession

James was  Board member with Vancouver Coastal Health Authority from 2008-2014.
 
He worked at Simon Fraser University as a Business Co-operative Education Coordinator and a Senior Lecturer in the field of Accounting since 1984 and retired from that position in March 2008. Previously, James had also taught at the College of New Caledonia in Prince George, B.C. as a business instructor between 1976 and 1980. 
 
James Hsieh has a Masters of Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oregon. Professionally James is a Chartered Accountant and had worked for more than ten years as an Audit Manager, tax supervisor and staff accountant at some local, national and international Chartered Accountants firms.
 
James Hsieh’s first post secondary degree actually was in Journalism from a university in Taiwan and James had worked as a journalist for an international news agency for a couple of years before he decided to immigrate to North America in 1970.  With the journalism background and his strong personal interests in current events for all these years, James has been quite active currently with various Chinese Media in Lower Mainland area as a news/current events commentator as well.

Community Service

In his spare time, James has been actively involved with many community groups and organizations as a volunteer. Such as the Canadian Red Cross Society, the Rotary Club of Vancouver Chinatown, SUCCESS, the Association of Chinese Canadian Professionals, Touch Stone Family Association, Richmond City’s Sister City Committee, Richmond Chinese Community Association, Vancouver Racquets Club, etc...

James enjoys playing Badminton, Swimming, Hiking, Ball Room Dancing, Singing, Martial Arts, Traveling, Driving around, Attending cultural events, Small group conversations among friends, Collecting unique and special things, Good food and drink, Listening to music and General Readings.
