Rotary
Shortly after Dean joined the club, he takes on the position as Club Secretary and then Rotary Foundation Chair 2016-2021. He also attended the Rotary Leadership Institute which has given him a much bigger picture of Rotary.
- Through his personal efforts, Dean has managed to attract many good quality community people to be interested in Rotary, to be potential Rotarians, and be actual members of several Rotary clubs. Amongst them are Bill and Cindy Lau, Jimmy Yan and Hugo Li.
- Dean though is not a stranger to social media and has introduced WhatsApp to our club, which facilitates the club communication and member engagement.
- On his watch, the Club has a new name for our charitable society, Rotary Richmond Foundation. The application has been approved by CRA for changing our purposes.
International Effort
- Under the leadership of Dean, Rotary Club of Richmond has established a good international Rotary Clubs network through service projects and effective following up of those international Rotarians who have visited our club, e.g. Metro Binan Club in the Philippines.
- He orchestrated Enchilada Festival night to support the youth projects in Huauchinango, Mexico. And in doing so, he helped bring our club closer to the other international clubs.
Special Rotary services and activities
- Dean has attended and completed all the Rotary related training programs, seminars, and workshops including both the District Conference and RI Convention.
- He has actively and effectively promoting all Rotary clubs in our community to work together (there are four Rotary clubs in Richmond, BC) on various, e.g. the Enchilada Festival and the Paul Harris Award Dinner.
- Served as club president 2018-2019, earned “Rotarian of The Year” award in April 2019
- Organized one Rotary Pop concert and China International Children Cartoon Competition in 2018 raised $15,000 for Polio Eradication
- Organized two Rotary pop concerts in 2019 Raised $12,000 supporting Polio Eradication and Youth Interact Clubs.
- Organized Paul Harris Fellow for non-Rotarians Recognition event with Four Richmond Rotary clubs in 2018.
Awards & Recognition
Dean was recognized as a Paul Harris Foundation by the Club in 2017 for his personal ongoing volunteering of charity/service activities, especially in the area of Consumer Protection and Health Promotion.
Dean also actively participates and contributes to other charitable organizations, such as:

- Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, President 2005-2006

- Canadian Blood Service/ Platelets Clinic donor of full blood; Platelets and plasma since 2004, 140 donations up to date

Dean (謝焯如) is a Financial Advisor of Queensbury Securities Inc. provide objective investment planning and advice, retirement, and estate planning services.
Interests
Downhill Skiing; Golf; Swimming and Qigong practice daily.
