PP John (Jack) William Milton Hutchins
June 08, 1926 - April 08, 2008

Jack was President (1971-1972) of the Rotary Club of Richmond. He passed away quietly on the morning of April 08, 2008 at the age of 81. He was predeceased by his parents William and Elsie, sister Gwendolyn and his wife Joan. He is survived by his loving wife Elinor, children, Jill (Roger), Jeffrey (Carolyn), Judy (Jon), grandchildren, Clayton, Darren, Kathryn, Keaton and Lindy and mother-in-law Noela.

While in his teen years, Jack developed a penchant for running and won a scholarship to the University of Oregon. It was there that he became a `trackman of Oregon', training under Bill Bowerman. He represented Canada in two British Empire Games, two Olympics (London and Helsinki 1948 and 1952 respectively), was twice named Canadian Athlete of the Year and a two-time All-American. His specialty was the 880. Running was a passion throughout his lifetime and in 2007 he won the Vancouver Sun Run for his age category.

Jack was an avid sportsman who also played tennis and curling. However, his life was devoted to giving back to his community through his volunteerism and helping others. His life was full, from stained glass and creative writing to playing bridge with his high school chums, gardening and family.
In life, Jack was a positive influence on many and his optimism defined his journey through the years. Jack's sense of humour was always prevalent and practical jokes were not unheard of. Jack found solace in his spiritual pursuits and his selfless approach to living, always putting others ahead of him.
