Conversation. Chit chat. Laughs. Handshakes. Camaraderie is just the right medicine needed to start the new year.

It was heartwarming to observe the banter unfolding and to appreciate that we have friendships and a weekly place to be with our friends. It does the heart good to share a smile, share anecdotes, receive updates, and stay connected. When one misses Rotary luncheons, it is easy to lose touch and soon Rotary is forgotten.

It was so good to see our good friend Ed Gavsie from RCRG receive our Club’s cheque for $3,000 for the Christmas Fund. This has been an ongoing tradition for over 4 decades. Evidently the need for Christmas hampers increased 20% over last year. Thanks to all of you who donated towards this Christmas need. You have brightened Christmas for some needy Richmond families.

Past President Wilbur Walrond brought some exciting news. He and Past President Otto Reeves along with a handful of Rotarians formed The World Fellowship of Rotarian Gourmets back in 1991. Our Rotary Club was central to this fellowship. There are many Rotary Fellowships available to join…. all over the world and in dozens of fields of endeavours. Check out Rotary Fellowships to find one that suits you. Here is another way to remain engaged in Rotary. Rotarian Gourmets enjoy the art of fine cuisine, fine wine, and Rotary friendship. Wilbur is expanding Rotarian Gourmets to include Rotaractors and Polio Plus. Those who want to expand their knowledge of great cuisine and good wine with others will want to check this savoury feature of Rotary.

Past District Governor Hans Doge dropped by for a visit today. It is always nice to see some PDG’s stop by now and then. He brought his greetings for the New Year and heartily led our National Anthem.
