My Voice - Sep 3 Meeting speech

Thanks to Nancy Yurkovich for giving us a talk on "A Most Difficult Conversation" - Advance care planning in making Future Health Care Decision.

No matter how hard it is to bring up this topic, having a voice in decisions about our health care treatment is important. Advance care planning begins by thinking about our beliefs, values and wishes regarding future health care treatment. Have conversation with our close family, friends and health care provider(s) so that they know our wishes if we become incapable of expressing our own decisions.

The new incapacity (or personal) planning legislation allows capable adults to put plans into place that outline the health care treatments they consent to o refuse based on their beliefs, values and wishes. You can find out more details on Advance Care Planning and download "My Voice - Expressing my wishes for Future Health Care Treatment" from gov.bc.ca
