Peace! Doesn't that sound wonderful!

Imagine a world where dialogue resolves disputes and harmony reigns.

Rotary is definitely dedicated to Peace in a very practical and pragmatic way. Rotary offers Peace Fellowships at one of seven Rotary Peace Centers worldwide. Each year these Center select and train Rotary Peace Fellows based on their ability to have a significant, positive impact on world peace and conflict resolution during their future careers.

Linda Low is a Rotary Peace Fellow Alumna, she received her Master of International Development Policy from Duke University. In her Feb 2^nd presentation, she described some of her recent projects on advocating for public health, facilitating dialogue between public and private stakeholders and mobilizing a movement to reduce food waste, local community needs.

Linda demonstrated that she is a talented Canadian who can bring disputing sides together. She is a wonderful ambassador for the Rotary Peace Fellow Programme. Fascinated and curious about Peace Fellows, visit Rotary Peace Fellowship

The Seven Centers of Peace

Situated in different parts of the world, the Rotary Peace Centers offer tailor-made curricula to train individuals devoted to peacebuilding and conflict resolution — no matter where they land.

Rita Lopidia's time at the Rotary Peace Center at the University of Bradford in England profoundly affected her. After graduation, she traveled back to Uganda and established the EVE Organization for Women Development and started engaging the South Sudanese refugees in Uganda and their host communities. Through her organization, they were able to mobilize South Sudanese women to participate in the South Sudan peace process promoted by eastern Africa's Intergovernmental Authority for Development — and that led to the signing of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan in 2018.

Lopidia is just one of the 1,500-plus peace fellows from more than 115 countries who have graduated from a Rotary Peace Center since the program was created in 1999. Rotary plans to establish a peace center in the Middle East or North Africa, perhaps as soon as 2024, and has set its sights on opening one in Latin America by 2030.

The Lunar New Year Gala is Richmond Rotary's biggest event of the year.

Even though the date has changed, we will still be having an online auction with proceeds going to 4 very important causes. We need items to auction - so every club member is encouraged to participate!

Here's how you can participate in the online auction:

1. You can find sponsors who want to place their items online for sale. (The price of the item must be lower than it's original retail price).

2. Sponsors can donate items and receive advertising from online shoppers. Or,

3. Members can donate items.

If you have items to auction, please send all items with photos and information about the items (retail value, description of item etc) to Chris Browne [email protected]

All proceeds go to four important causes that will a positive impact on Richmondites:

Rotary Hospice House
SOS Children's Village BC for foster children
Pathway Clubhouse Richmond to support mental wellness
Ipads and Computers for Low Income Seniors

Paul Harris Fellow Nominations Deadline Feb 13!!!

The Rotary Club of Richmond is inviting nominations from you for a “Paul Harris Fellow”. Non-Rotarians dedicated to community service are being recognized at an upcoming dinner event hosted by all four Rotary Clubs in Richmond. The “Paul Harris Award” is our way to acknowledge worthy citizens in our community for the time and resources they contribute to the betterment of others.

Deadline for nominations is midnight Feb 13^th, 2022.

Please learn more about the Paul Harris Recognition to help you determine those you wish to nominate. Our club may be honour up to two individuals selected from the nominations received. When submitting your nominations, please provide a jpg photo of at least 3 MB in portrait mode, a background to support the nomination and a summary up to 500 words in length to be used for the evening’s programme.

This will be a prestigious event, one where the recipient of the award will be honoured by Rotarians for having contributed significantly to Rotary’s 7 areas of focus. We look forward to receiving your personal recommendations and nominations.
