Summary of February 3rd, 2021 Rotary Meeting, featuring guest speaker, Fred Liu!

On February 3rd, 2021, the Richmond Rotary Club heard from guest speaker, Fred Liu.  Fred came and spoke about online schools, it's benefits, and his experience with U Arts Academy.

Fred is the Director and co-founder of Canada U Arts Academy. Born and raised in China, Fred chose to pursue his education in Australia and Canada.

Canada U Arts Academy is a professional school that offers high-quality afterschool programs in Greater Vancouver.  It was recently voted as the second best private school in Richmond.

Fred focused his presentation on the emerging trend of online classes. According to Fred, there are numerous benefits to virtual classes, as well as opportunities. He hopes the trend towards more virtual options continues, as it provides opportunity to students that were not available just a few years ago. According to Fred, our current realities have pushed students to more virtual options that he believes will live on long after covid-19. He thinks this is a good trend.

Following Fred's presentation, the regular meeting began. Suna reminded the club about the upcoming Superbowl event this Sunday. Send in your $10 to Jacqueline by this Sunday at 3:00 pm!

Suna announced the board has approved another project. In addition to our new Lunar new year project where we are raising money for a new medical machine ($20,000), the board will be conducting the Shred a Thon on March the 6th, 10:00-2:00. The Rotary club is raising money for the Gateway theatre Summer camps for kids and Chimo Community Services. Suna has booked the truck, but location is TBD...stay tuned for further details! We will need a lot of volunteers to support the event, so Suna will be reaching out in the coming days for another call for volunteers.

And a final reminder about our big Lunar New Year event on February 17th 7-9 pm! Planning continues - music, games and videos! Detail....
